What can I expect from Riveting Kerala?

For many travellers, Kerala is South India’s most serenely beautiful state. A slender coastal strip is shaped by its layered landscape: almost 600km of glorious Arabian Sea coast and beaches; a languid network of glistening backwaters; and the spice- and tea-covered hills of the Western Ghats. Just setting foot on this swath of soul-quenching, palm-shaded green will slow your subcontinental stride to a blissed-out amble. Kerala is a world away from the frenzy of elsewhere, as if India had passed through the Looking Glass and become an altogether more laid-back place.

Delhi is also widely believed to have been the site of Indraprastha, the legendary capital of the Pandavas during the times of the Mahabharata. Delhi re-emerged as a major political, cultural and commercial city along the trade routes between northwest India and the Gangetic plain after the rise of the Delhi sultanates. It is the site of many ancient and medieval monuments, archaeological sites and remains. In 1639, Mughal emperor Shahjahan built a new walled city in Delhi which served as the capital of the Mughal Empire from 1649 to 1857.Overnight stay at the hotel in Delhi.

DAY 02: FULL DAY SIGHTSEEING OF DELHI – AGRA (230 K.M. APPROX. 4½ HRS.) – After breakfast, checkout from hotel and begin your tour of the Delhi. Start with a drive through the wide avenues of Lutyen’s Delhi. You pass some of India’s most iconic building on this drive;India Gate, the stately memorial built for the Unknown Soldier, the Parliament Houses, and the grandest building of them all,Rashtrapathi Bhavan(President’ House). Visit Raj Ghat – A memorial of Mahatma Gandhi and enjoy the walking tour Also drive pass the Red Fort (from outside) built by Emperor Shah Jahan. Your drive leads you toward Old Delhi- pulsating with energy and colour, the hustle and bustle of thronged bazaars and laced by a maze of narrow lanes which twists and turns between tall, leaning houses full of sights, sounds and aromas of the Indian sub-continent. You disembark here at the Jama Masjid. This is India’s largest mosque and the last architectural triumph of Shah Jehan. Late afternoon you drive to Humayun’s Tomb, the first of garden-tomb concept built by Mughal dynasty that later on became inspiration for building of several monuments including the Taj Mahal. Take a walk in the gardens of this grand monument, where ancient trees and broken ruins pose as lush adornments to the sandstone glow of the mausoleum. Later evening drive towards Agra. On arrival check in at your Pre- booked hotel and Overnight stay at hotel in Agra. Agra is a city on the banks of the river Yamuna The city finds mention in the epic Mahabharata where it was called Agreva?a, or ‘the border of the forest’. Legend ascribes the founding of the city to Raja Badal Singh (around 1475), who’s fort, Badalgarh, stood on or near the site of the present Fort. However, the 11th century Persian poet Mas’udSa’dSalman writes of a desperate assault on the fortress of Agra, then held by the Shahi King Jayapala, by Sultan Mahmud of Ghazni. Sultan Sikandar Lodi was the first to move his capital from Delhi to Agra in the year 1506; he died in 1517 and his son Ibrahim Lodi remained in power there for nine more years, finally being defeated at the Battle of Panipat in 1526. It achieved fame as the capital of the Mughal emperors from 1526 to 1658.

Day 03: – SIGHTSEEING OF AGRA- JAIPUR (260 K.M. APPROX. 06 HRS. – Morning Sunrise visit to Taj Mahal – The monument was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1560 in loving memory of his queen Mumtaz Mahal to enshrine her mortal remains. 20,000 workers from all over Asia toiled 20 years to create this masterpiece. ‘A tear on the cheek of humanity’ is how Nobel poet laureate Rabindranath Tagore described this tomb.

Note: The Taj Mahal remains closed on Fridays

After visit of Taj Mahal return back to hotel. After breakfast checkout from the hotel and visit Agra Fort. With the Taj Mahal overshadowing it, one can easily forget that Agra has one of the finest Mughal forts in India. Construction of the massive red-sandstone fort, on the bank of the Yamuna River, was begun by Emperor Akbar in 1565. After visit of Agra Fort, proceed to Jaipur. En-route visit Fatehpur Sikri. Fatehpur Sikri, located 40 Km from Agra, the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri was built by Emperor Akbar in 1569, in honour of the great Saint Sheikh Salim Chisti who blessed Akbar and prophesized the birth of three sons to the heirless Emperor. Akbar used Fatehpur Sikri as his capital and the city was fully occupied for 14 years but slowly became deserted and ruined after Akbar left the city. Scarcity of water was the prime factor for the abandonment of this beautiful city. Visit the remarkably well-preserved, graceful buildings within the ‘Ghost City’ including the Jama Masjid, tomb of Salim Chisti, Panch Mahal Palace and other palaces that speak of the grandeur and splendor of the Mughal empire at the height of its power. After visit of Fatehpur Sikri, continue drive to Jaipur. On Arrival at Jaipur, Check- in at the hotel. Overnight at hotel in Jaipur. Jaipur – also popularly known as the Pink City, is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Rajasthan. Founded on 18 November 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber, the city today has a population of more than 3.9 million. Jaipur is one of the finest planned cities of India, located in the semi-desert lands of Rajasthan. The city which once had been the capital of the royalty now is the capital city of Rajasthan. The very structure of Jaipur resembles the taste of the Rajputs and the Royal families. At present, Jaipur is a major business centre with all requisites of a metropolitan city.

It is known for its blend of Rajput and Hindu style of architecture and mixture of Hindu and Muslim style of ornamentation.Later, proceed to explore the architectural wealth of the city starting with a visit to its monuments. Your first stop in the city is at the City Palace whose several courtyards and gardens provide wonderful contrast to its many palatial structures including Mubarak Mahal, Chandra Mahal, Badal Mahal and the Sri Govind Dev temple. The huge silver water vessels displayed at the Diwan-e-Khas recorded in the Guinness Book as the largest in the world are a must see. Also visit The Observatory known as ‘Jantar Mantar’ that incorporates multiple buildings of unique geometrical forms, each with a specialized function for astronomical measurement. But beyond the beaches, it’s a thrilling, underrated destination where distinct cultures and incredible extremes of landscape – forested coastlines, Saharan sand seas in the south – can be explored in just a few days.
